Clery Act and Critical Communication for Higher ED
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act, is a statute requiring all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses. One of the requirements is that college and universities must have the ability to deliver timely alerts regarding critical incidents (e.g. criminal activity, active shooter, sexual assault, etc.). Failure to comply with the act can result in civil penalties against institutions as well as suspension from participating in federal student financial aid programs.
