As of Thursday, December 16, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in North America is beginning to worsen significantly again as the Omicron variant spurs new increases in infections in both the U.S. and Canada. The U.S has reported a two-week increase in cases of 40 percent, while Canada has reported an increase of nearly 60 percent, with some provinces reporting increases of over 100 percent.
Recently, U.S. President Joe Biden announced the intention to allow for at-home COVID-19 tests to be fully reimbursable for nearly 150 million people on private health insurance. The hope is that this will increase access to testing and encourage more testing to help mitigate potential spread of COVID-19.
